DMK Councillor Dies During Silent Procession Honoring Karunanidhi

During a silent procession held in memory of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Ku. Shanmugham, a councilor of the Greater Chennai Corporation from Ward 146 representing DMK, passed away due to a cardiac arrest. The procession was organized from Karunanidhi’s statue of Anna Salai to his memorial on the Marina beach.

Ku. Shanmugham, aged 68, collapsed on Wallajah Road and was subsequently declared brought dead at the government hospital.  His passing marks the third councilor death in the span of 10 months, reducing the strength of the Greater Chennai Corporation Council from 200 to 197. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, other leaders, and DMK supporters participated in the march.

Ku. Shanmugham was recognized for his contributions to his ward’s development in the Maduravoyal area and had been an active member of the Health Committee of the Corporation.
