The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) in Royapuram faces a severe operational crisis after their office was demolished to make way for a new building. For the past year, the staff have struggled to find suitable accommodation, contending with inadequate temporary facilities that lack electricity, internet, water supply, and toilets.
Despite a budget for rent, demands for advance payments from landlords have stymied relocation efforts. The DCPU South unit, in particular, has been unsuccessful in securing an office in south Chennai since 2022, exacerbating their plight. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has pledged to assist, but the DCPU remains uncertain about its immediate future.
