India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar revealed that during his meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, the diplomatic row between India and Canada was discussed, including India’s concerns about what it perceives as a “very permissive Canadian attitude towards terrorists.”
While the US readout of the meeting with Blinken did not mention Canada, Jaishankar stated that he provided an exhaustive account of India’s case during the discussions. He mentioned that India had addressed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations privately and publicly, asserting that the allegations were inconsistent with India’s policy. Jaishankar also highlighted the longstanding tensions between India and Canada related to issues such as organized crime, trafficking, secessionism, violence, and terrorism.
