Gudimetla village in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district has become a hub of activity as people from various parts of the state are flocking to the village in search of diamonds. The excitement follows reports that a family from Sattenapalli town in Guntur district stumbled upon a six-faceted diamond worth an estimated Rs 50 to Rs 60 lakh during routine digging.
Diamond merchants have reportedly offered the family Rs 40 lakh for the gem, but they are waiting for a better price. This annual diamond hunt tradition sees people engage in intense digging and sifting through soil and stones, with hopes of finding valuable diamonds.
The Gudimetla area is believed to have hidden treasures due to its historical connection with kings. Notably, the region has previously produced famous diamonds like the Kohinoor. The diamond mining industry in the area, however, is now defunct.
