In response to the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) combined civil services examination scam, departmental proceedings have been initiated against 34 Assam Civil Service (ACS) personnel from the 2013 batch. The officers are accused of paying money to pass the examination. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed strict action against the implicated officers based on the findings of the Justice B.K. Sarma Committee’s report investigating the scam.
The accused officers are set to face severe consequences. Additionally, action has been taken against applicants from the 2014 batch who were allegedly selected through unethical means, with manipulated scores during the tabulation process. The state administration has already dismissed 57 candidates selected for civil services in 2013 and 2014.
Since 2016, more than 70 individuals, including 57 civil services officers and former APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul, have been detained in connection with the irregularities.
