Delhi High Court Seeks ED’s Response on Businessman’s Bail Plea for Medical Reasons

The Delhi High Court has directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to Hyderabad businessman Arun Ramchandran Pillai’s plea for interim bail on medical grounds. Pillai, arrested in connection with the alleged Delhi excise scam, cited back pain and recommended Ayurvedic treatment in Kerala. The court, presided over by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma, instructed the ED to verify Pillai’s medical reports and scheduled the next hearing for June 10.

Pillai’s arrest stems from accusations of representing the ‘South Group’ in meetings related to the 2021 excise policy, which allegedly involved a ₹100 crore payment to the Delhi government. The ED contends that Pillai is associated with Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K. Kavitha, who is also detained in the case.
