Delhi Court Grants NIA Custody for Probe Into Transnational Terror Conspiracy
A Delhi court has granted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of an individual until October 3 as part of an investigation into a transnational conspiracy involving Myanmar and Bangladesh-based terror groups. These groups are alleged to be plotting to wage war against India by exploiting ethnic unrest in Manipur.
The NIA initiated the case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) on July 19. The agency arrested Seiminlun Gangte from Manipur’s Churachandpur district last week, alleging that militant groups in Myanmar and Bangladesh had conspired with certain Indian militant leaders to incite violence and create divisions among different ethnic groups in India. Funds were reportedly provided for the procurement of arms and ammunition to fuel the ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur.
