Cyclone Remal Wreaks Havoc in Northeast India, Claiming Multiple Lives
Cyclone Remal caused severe storms and heavy rains in Northeast India, resulting in at least 14 fatalities and numerous injuries on May 28. In Mizoram, a devastating landslide at a stone quarry near Aizawl killed 17 people and left several others missing. The state government responded by closing all non-essential offices and promising compensation to victims’ families.
In Assam, storms led to fatalities in Kamrup and Morigaon districts and injured many, including 12 schoolchildren in Sonitpur. The Indian Meteorological Department had issued warnings for the region, highlighting the severity of the weather conditions. Chief Ministers of the affected states are actively overseeing relief and rescue operations.
