Cyclone Michaung: Stormwater Drain Projects in Thousand Lights Prevent Inundation, Reports MLA
A report compiled by Thousand Lights MLA N. Ezhilan outlined the effectiveness of stormwater drain construction and repair work carried out in the Thousand Lights Assembly constituency, preventing prolonged inundation during the recent heavy rainfall brought by Cyclone Michaung. The report detailed proactive measures taken to identify flood-prone areas, leading to 25 projects for construction, desilting, and drainage improvement in identified locations.
The report revealed that, out of 45 flood-prone places, 25 experienced no inundation, draining in less than five hours after the rains stopped. Further initiatives, including a ₹52.6 crore project for drainage expansion and pumping stations, are planned to enhance flood resilience in vulnerable spots.
