Cyclone Michaung Spurs Wildlife Intrusions in Chennai: Crocodile Spotted, Surge in Snake Rescues
As Cyclone Michaung pounded Chennai with heavy rainfall, unusual wildlife intrusions have been reported, including a mugger crocodile seen on a waterlogged road near Perungalathur. The reptile was captured in a viral video, prompting authorities to caution people against venturing near water bodies in the vicinity.
The Forest Department noted an increase in snake rescue calls, with more than 200 reported encounters as of December 4 evening. The excessive rain led snakes to seek shelter in residences, prompting residents to request assistance from snake catchers. The Forest Department, along with snake catchers, is actively addressing the surge in wildlife-related incidents caused by the cyclonic conditions.
