Cyclone Michaung aftermath: South Chennai Struggles with Prolonged Inundation

In the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, many areas in south Chennai and the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) remain submerged, presenting a dire situation even three days after torrential rain battered the city. From Karapakkam to Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur to Semmancheri, Perumbakkam to Pallikaranai, and Velachery to Madipakkam, residents find themselves marooned without essential supplies such as food and water.

The Velachery-Tambaram road is impassable due to the overflowing Velachery and Narayanapuram lakes. Power outages persist, aggravating the plight of residents, and water demands remain unmet. The frustration is palpable among those stranded, questioning when the water will recede and power be restored. Rescue efforts continue, with boats being deployed in severely affected areas, but residents are growing increasingly anxious about the prolonged impact of the inundation on their lives and resources.
