Customs officers at Bengaluru Airport have apprehended two individuals for allegedly attempting to smuggle 2.8 kg of gold worth Rs 1.20 crore. According to a senior customs official, the suspects were identified based on profiling and were intercepted on September 9 upon their arrival at the airport.
A subsequent search revealed gold paste concealed under their waist belts, wrapped in insulation tape. Upon melting the paste, the officers uncovered 2.8 kg of gold.
The seized gold was confiscated under section 110 of the Customs Act, and the passengers were arrested under section 104 of the Act. Both individuals have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody following their appearance in a local court.
