Crackdown on Election Violations: Chennai Cleans Up Unauthorised Advertisements
With the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Chennai since March 16, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has undertaken a rigorous campaign to remove unauthorized advertisements across public and private spaces. A staggering total of 97,798 such advertisements have been eliminated as of recent records. In tandem with this crackdown, authorities have registered 43 cases for election-related violations, highlighting the city’s commitment to fair electoral practices.
Notably, significant seizures including cash, jewellery, and mobile phones amounting to ₹16 crore have been conducted, signaling a robust response against illicit activities. Furthermore, collaborative efforts involving the Income Tax Department, police, and excise authorities have resulted in substantial confiscations of assets and contraband, reinforcing the city’s resolve to uphold electoral integrity.
