Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) has reported significant progress in the cleanup of the oil spill in Ennore Creek. Utilizing two oil skimmers and employing booms for continuous oil removal, the company expects to complete the surface cleaning within three days. As of December 15, four layers of oil barrier booms are deployed to contain the spread, with an additional 80 meters installed and 500 meters en route from Paradip. Heavy machinery and boats have been mobilized to expedite oil removal, particularly under the Ennore Road Bridge.
CPCL has also established three mobile medical units to address the health needs of workers and local communities, benefiting around 1,900 individuals. The company emphasizes its commitment to environmental remediation, dispatching mechanical cleaning equipment from Mumbai to accelerate shore cleaning. Additionally, experts from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras are actively involved, collecting samples from affected areas for analysis.
