Councillors from GCC demand to increase in the decent level of funds for honorarium

Councillors from the Greater Chennai Corporation, representing various political parties, have expressed their support for Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s decision to provide an honorarium to elected representatives of urban local bodies. However, they believe that the current amount of ₹10,000 is inadequate, especially considering the high living costs in cities like Chennai.

In order to increase the honorarium to a more reasonable level, the councillors are urging the central government to allocate funds towards this cause. They argue that additional financial support from the Centre would help ensure a fair and decent honorarium for the elected representatives. The councillors believe that a higher honorarium would not only reflect the importance of their role but also motivate them to serve their constituents effectively.
