Corruption Scandal Unfolds: Special Tahsildar and Police Constable Caught Accepting Bribe
In a corruption scandal, a Special Tahsildar in Adyar and a police constable were arrested while receiving a bribe of ₹3 lakh for evicting encroachments from government land in Injambakkam. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials apprehended them under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The arrest came after social activist Pon Thangavel lodged a complaint. Thangavel, who had filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court regarding encroachments, was approached by Special Tahsildar Saroja, demanding ₹1 crore. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₹3 lakh. DVAC sleuths, acting on Thangavel’s complaint, coordinated with him, leading to the arrest of Saroja, the Special Tahsildar, and police constable M. Arunkumar.
