Cooum River at Adigathur will be ready by August after the checking is over

The construction of a check dam across the Cooum River at Adigathur is nearing completion and is expected to be ready by early August. The project, with a budget of ₹17.7 crores, aims to provide benefits to several villages, including Egattur, Thandalam, Kadambathur, Selai, and Melnallathur.

The check dam will improve the availability of groundwater for both drinking and agricultural purposes in these areas. The Cooum River, known for its relatively clean stretch, will now have an additional storage structure to facilitate groundwater recharge.

This initiative is particularly crucial in the semi-critical zone where groundwater extraction exceeds 70%. The check dam will contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of water resources in the region.
