Controversy Surrounds Kerala Chief Minister’s Security Over Baton-Charging Protesters
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s personal security detail faces criticism for allegedly assaulting Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists during a black flag protest in Alappuzha. Mobile phone footage aired on television channels shows the security team baton-charging demonstrators detained by local police. Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan accused the security team of overstepping its role, asserting that the local police are responsible for maintaining public peace.
He called for a police investigation into the Chief Minister’s personal security officer for leading an attack on individuals in police custody. Satheesan criticized Vijayan’s defense of the security team, describing it as “criminal-minded sadism.” Vijayan claimed he was unaware of the alleged assault and emphasized the security team’s duty to protect the Chief Minister.
