Work has started on the construction of a rail overbridge (ROB) at level crossing 64 in Karunguzhi, Chengalpattu district. The project, costing ₹29.5 crores, aims to facilitate the movement of local residents and farmers transporting paddy to nearby rice mills. The two-lane ROB, spanning 847 meters with 22 spans, is expected to be completed by March 2025 after 24 months of construction.
The foundation and retaining walls have already shown good progress. Land acquisition issues delayed the project’s progress, but now that they are resolved, construction is moving forward. The level crossing lies between Padalam and Karunguzhi railway stations, providing connectivity to various destinations such as Madurantakam, Thirukazhukundram, and Mamallapuram.
