With the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, several Congress veterans and loyalists of the Gandhi family are set to reclaim their seats in Parliament after a hiatus. The party’s list of candidates for the biennial elections includes Ajay Maken, a confidante of Rahul Gandhi, who will represent Karnataka despite initial reservations from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Maken’s nomination marks his return to Parliament after a decade.
In Madhya Pradesh, the party opted for Ashok Singh over Kamal Nath, indicating a shift in allegiance towards Digvijaya Singh. Additionally, Himachal Pradesh witnessed an unprecedented move as Abhishek Manu Singhvi, known for handling legal matters for the party, secured the nomination, marking the first time someone from outside the state has been chosen for the Rajya Sabha.
These nominations reflect strategic decisions by the Congress to reinforce its presence in the upper house, leveraging the experience and loyalty of seasoned party members.
