Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the Centre’s belated implementation of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, calling it “damage control” in response to recent exam irregularities. Ramesh emphasized the necessity of such a law but lamented that it addresses issues like question paper leaks only after they have occurred.
He highlighted that the Act, despite receiving presidential assent in February, was operationalized just recently, indicating a reactive rather than proactive approach to preventing malpractices. The Congress leader stressed the need for robust mechanisms to prevent leaks in competitive exams like NEET-UG and UGC-NET, underscoring the importance of preemptive measures to safeguard exam integrity.
