Congress Challenges PM Modi on Andhra Pradesh’s Special Category Status
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the promise of granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh, a commitment made during the 2014 AP Reorganisation Act. Ramesh reiterated the unmet promises, questioning the release of funds for the Polavaram Project, halting the privatization of Vishakapatnam Steel Plant, and operationalizing the new South Coast Railway zone.
He also demanded action on several pending projects, including the Kadapa Steel Plant and the Kakinada Petro complex. These remarks coincided with Chandrababu Naidu’s swearing-in as Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister, emphasizing the need for the TDP leader to push the central government on these crucial issues.
