The Congress party has taken its dispute with the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) to the Delhi High Court, seeking relief from the tribunal’s decision to reject its plea for a stay on tax recovery for the 2018-19 assessment year. Senior advocate Vivek Tankha represented the Congress before a bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, emphasizing the urgency of the matter due to the freezing of the party’s accounts.
Acting Chief Justice Manmohan agreed to expedite the hearing if the petition met the necessary criteria, as Congress challenges the ITAT’s ruling, which upheld penalties totaling ₹210 crore imposed by the Income Tax department.
