Amid rising concerns over dog-related conflicts and insufficient data on neuter coverage, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board (TNAWB) and Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS), has initiated a city-wide survey of stray and community dogs. The Dog Population Management (DPM) program spans preparation, volunteer training, data collection, and analysis phases, aiming to inform targeted interventions.
Starting in four zones, the survey covers all 200 wards, utilizing the WVS Data Collection App for comprehensive data recording. The survey, with a budget of ₹5 lakh, addresses logistics and administrative expenses, aiming to enhance policy decisions and improve dog management strategies.
