Commuters Express Disappointment Over Lack of Additional Trains Between Beach and Chengalpattu
Despite the completion of the third line between Tambaram and Chengalpattu by Southern Railway over a year ago, commuters are expressing frustration as the promised increase in suburban train services between Chengalpattu and Tambaram, as well as Chennai Beach, has not materialized.
Instead, some passengers claim that the number of services has actually been reduced. The Tamil Nadu government had agreed to fund a fourth line, but the lack of improved services has left commuters inconvenienced. Passengers report that non-peak hour services occur at intervals of 30-40 minutes, posing difficulties, especially at night.
Some have called for the reinstatement of shuttle services between Tambaram and Chengalpattu to alleviate the situation. Prior to the pandemic, daily ridership exceeded 10 lakh individuals across various sections of the suburban network.
