CMRL’s Phase I 150 CCTV cameras are in non-operational condition

Around 150 CCTV cameras in Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase I and Phase I extension stretches are currently not operational, posing concerns for commuter safety. CMRL officials have acknowledged the issue and stated that the faulty cameras are being addressed and will be reinstalled soon.

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited operates a 54-km network, including two corridors: Washermenpet to Chennai Airport and Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount, along with the 9-km phase I extension in north Chennai from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar. Out of the total 3,343 CCTV cameras installed in this network, nearly 4.5% are experiencing glitches and require immediate repair.
