CMDA to Privatize Kilambakkam Bus Terminus for Enhanced Passenger Experience

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is set to sign an agreement to hand over the operation and maintenance of the newly opened Kilambakkam bus terminus to a single concessionaire, BVG Group, for 15 years. The move aims to enhance passenger experience by ensuring cleanliness and amenities similar to airport facilities.

This is the first instance of a bus terminus in the country being managed by a single concessionaire through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The CMDA expects to generate an annual revenue of over ₹2.4 crore through this arrangement. The concessionaire will implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain cleanliness and provide various passenger amenities, including pre-paid autorickshaw and taxi counters, trolleys, and battery-operated vehicles.
