CM Stalin Calls for Transfer of Education to State List on Independence Day
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin marked Independence Day by urging for the transfer of the subject ‘Education’ back to the State List of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution. He argued that this move would facilitate the abolishment of centralized exams like NEET. Originally a state subject, education was shifted to the Concurrent List during the Emergency by the Indira Gandhi government.
During the flag hoisting ceremony at Fort St. George in Chennai, CM Stalin announced the establishment of a welfare board for workers associated with service providers such as Ola, Uber, Swiggy, and Zomato. He also mentioned the expansion of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to all state-run schools from August 25.
Additionally, the monthly pension for freedom fighters and their family members will be increased from ₹10,000 to ₹11,000. The government plans to train 10,000 ex-servicemen to aid in their employment, fill around 55,000 vacancies in various government departments this year, and establish the Kalaignar Centenary Park on Cathedral Road.
Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani received the ‘Thagaisal Thamizhar Award,’ while W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy and M. Muthamilselvi were honored with the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Award and the Kalpana Chawla Award for Courage and Daring Enterprise, respectively.
