Citywide Voter Awareness Drive Launched in Chennai

In a bid to enhance electoral participation, a comprehensive voters’ education campaign will unfold across all polling stations in Chennai for one month. Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo, alongside Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan, initiated the initiative by flagging off three vehicles equipped with electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter-verified paper audit trails (VVPATs) in Ripon Buildings.

Addressing the need to combat urban apathy towards elections, Sahoo emphasized the significance of bolstering voter turnout, particularly among the youth and first-time voters. With over 39 lakh voters in the city, the program aims to foster collaboration with residents’ welfare associations and students to ensure the dissemination of crucial electoral information, including the functioning of VVPATs, thereby fostering a culture of informed voting.
