The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was granted six-day custody of the accused in the Neha Hiremath murder case, starting April 24. Immediately after gaining custody, CID officials took the accused, Fayaz Khandunayak, to the crime spot at KLE Technological University in Hubballi for further investigation. However, their efforts were met with protests as ABVP activists tried to lay siege to the vehicle transporting the accused.
Additionally, students staged a demonstration under the NSUI banner, demanding justice for Neha and calling for the death penalty for the accused. Despite the protests, AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala visited Neha Hiremath’s family in Bidnal, Hubballi, expressing solidarity and assuring them of Congress’s support. He also urged against politicizing the incident and called for justice to be served swiftly.
