The Water Resources Department (WRD) has initiated a ₹40-crore project to strengthen the bund of Cholavaram reservoir, which suffered extensive damage during intense rains last year. The project aims to improve a 1.2-km stretch of the nearly 3.5 km-long bund. A diaphragm wall will be constructed underground along a vulnerable 200-meter portion to prevent seepage and serve as a water retaining wall.
This restoration work is crucial to prevent future flood threats to downstream areas, ensuring the safety of the reservoir. The project is expected to be completed by September, and it includes stabilizing and widening the remaining stretch of the bund. Additionally, a digital survey of the reservoir is being conducted to ensure accurate project implementation and monitoring.
