China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, called on the international community to work towards a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the severe humanitarian catastrophe affecting over 2 million innocent people. Despite UN resolutions calling for a ceasefire and an end to collective punishment, the conflict persists, leading to dire conditions in Gaza. Geng urged Israel to cease indiscriminate military attacks and provide conditions for humanitarian assistance.
He emphasized the critical need for life-saving supplies, functioning medical systems, and maintaining social order. China called for the effective implementation of Security Council Resolution 2720 to boost humanitarian aid and advocated for a two-state solution through an international peace conference. China also supports Palestine’s full UN membership and the resumption of direct negotiations between Palestine and Israel.
