China Restores Diplomatic Ties with Nauru After Taiwan Breakup

China has officially restored diplomatic relations with Nauru following the Pacific island nation’s decision to sever ties with Taiwan. Nauru’s announcement to cut ties with Taiwan came shortly after the latter elected a new president, leaving Taiwan with only 12 remaining diplomatic allies. China claims Taiwan as its territory and has been steadily poaching its diplomatic allies, viewing the island as a renegade province.

Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister accused China of intentionally timing the news to coincide with the island’s presidential election. The diplomatic shift underscores China’s influence in global affairs and its efforts to isolate Taiwan diplomatically. With only 11 remaining official allies, Taiwan faces increasing pressure from China’s assertive foreign policy.
