Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena presided over a meeting at the Secretariat to assess the progress of drainage and flood prevention measures in Chennai and its suburbs. Key stakeholders such as the Greater Chennai Corporation, Highways Department, Water Resources Department, CMWSSB, CMRL, and Municipal Administration Department attended the meeting.
Chief Secretary Meena emphasized the timely completion of storm-water drain work in Chennai and Tambaram Corporation ahead of the northeast monsoon. He also urged the Corporation to prioritize the canal work worth ₹232 crore under the State Disaster Management Fund. Currently, work is underway at 6,720 locations covering a distance of 1,360 km in two phases within the corporation limits, with a focus on completing it before the monsoon season.
