Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme Launched to Combat Urban Poverty

The Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme, aimed at alleviating poverty among the urban poor, was inaugurated in Chennai and Nagapattinam with an allocation of ₹27,922 crore. Announced by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, the scheme targets over five lakh beneficiaries, including marginalized groups such as rag-pickers, destitute individuals, underprivileged children, and transpersons.

Mayor R. Priya emphasized that the program will address critical needs in health, housing, and education. A dedicated committee will oversee the implementation, ensuring that support reaches the intended recipients effectively. The initiative represents a significant effort to tackle poverty comprehensively over the next two years.
