In a significant development, gangster Chhota Rajan has been convicted in the 2001 murder case of Mumbai hotelier Jaya Shetty. Shetty, owner of the Golden Crown hotel in central Mumbai, was killed by alleged members of the Chhota Rajan gang amid extortion threats.
Despite having previously received police protection, Shetty’s security was withdrawn at his own request just two months before the fatal attack. The conviction, delivered by Special Judge A.M. Patil under the Maharashtra Control Of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), marks a milestone in the pursuit of justice for the victim and accountability for organized crime.
