Chennai’s Voter Turnout Dips in Lok Sabha Polls
Chennai witnessed a decrease in voter turnout by 4 percentage points compared to the previous Lok Sabha elections. According to Chennai District Election Officer J. Radhakrishnan, the turnout for all three parliamentary constituencies stood at 56.10%. While North Chennai recorded the highest turnout at 60.13%, Central Chennai and South Chennai registered 53.91% and 54.27%, respectively.
The total electorate in the three constituencies amounted to 48.69 lakh. Radhakrishnan highlighted efforts to combat urban voter apathy, mentioning the success of 47 different SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) activities conducted in the city.
