Chennai’s Road Revamp: A Race Against Time
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is on a mission to revamp the city’s roads, aiming to complete the relaying of 100 roads per day before the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha election kicks in. With an impressive fleet of 70 paving machines, the GCC is mobilizing resources to expedite the process. Over the past three fiscal years, significant progress has been made, with thousands of roads already relaid within the corporation’s jurisdiction.
Tenders have been floated for thousands more, indicating a relentless commitment to infrastructure improvement. Despite challenges, including financial constraints and administrative hurdles, the GCC remains determined to meet its ambitious targets and enhance the city’s transportation infrastructure before electoral constraints come into play.
