Chennai’s Public Transport Set for a Digital Upgrade

The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) is gearing up to launch a unified ticketing app by April, seamlessly integrating the city’s three major public transport services—MTC buses, Chennai Metro, and suburban trains. This initiative, delayed initially due to Railway Board approvals, is now in its final phase, with online ticketing for MTC being developed.

While Metro and suburban train users already enjoy digital ticketing, this system will unify fare payment across all three services. Meanwhile, the Singara Chennai card has gained popularity, offering a smart, cashless travel option for bus and Metro commuters. This transition marks a significant step toward modernizing Chennai’s public transport, making daily commutes more convenient and efficient.
