The Southern Railway’s fourth line project from Chennai Egmore to Beach railway station, crucial for improving suburban and express service operations, is set to be completed by August. Initially projected to finish by March, the timeline was extended due to delays in land acquisition and Cyclone Michaung.
The project, funded with ₹274.20 crore, aims to ease congestion by adding a dedicated line for mail and express trains, especially with the upcoming third terminal at Tambaram. Significant progress includes completing work on seven minor bridges and a major bridge, alongside ongoing track installation and infrastructure upgrades at key stations. The MRTS service truncation at Chindatripet will continue until the project’s completion.
