Chennai’s Flooding Concerns Alleviated Through Government Initiatives, Says Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has highlighted the significant transformation in Chennai’s vulnerability to flooding during rainfall. He attributed this change to the initiatives undertaken by the government since taking office in 2021. Stalin’s message on the social media platform X emphasized the effectiveness of desilting, the installation of new stormwater drains spanning 876 kilometers, and similar measures in mitigating the impact of heavy rains on the city.

Responding to a statement by the Greater Chennai Corporation, which reported minimal water stagnation despite substantial rainfall in most areas, Stalin praised the efficient drainage systems, with only Alandur and Velachery experiencing minor exceptions, where water was promptly cleared.

With forecasts of heavy rains in the coming days, he urged ministers, elected representatives of the Greater Chennai Corporation, and officials to remain actively engaged in the field to ensure the public’s safety and well-being.
