Chennai’s Central Crime Branch to Investigate Cyber Crimes Against Women and Children

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Greater Chennai Police has been assigned the responsibility of investigating sensitive cases involving cybercrimes against women and children, irrespective of the amount of money involved. This includes cases related to child pornography, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, the posting of explicit content online, and threats made through fake profiles.

The CCB will also handle cases of bank fraud, fake passports, and visa cases. This initiative comes as a response to the increasing incidence of cybercrimes against women and children, such as morphing, impersonation, and the posting of sexually explicit content on social media. In cases of usury (kanthuvatti) where money lenders charge exorbitant interest rates, the CCB will investigate cases involving over ₹1 crore.

For cases involving immovable property fraud worth more than ₹50 lakh, the CCB will register the case. This development aims to address the rise in cybercrimes targeting vulnerable individuals.
