Chennai Welcomes Relief from Heat with Heavy Rainfall

Chennai and its suburbs experienced heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon, bringing a welcome respite to residents from the scorching heat. Parts of the city, including Chembarambakkam and southern suburbs like Meenambakkam and West Tambaram, received significant rainfall, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

The sudden downpour, caused by a cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal, lowered temperatures below normal levels. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds over the State for the coming days, ensuring a pleasant weather outlook till June 11. However, heavy rainfall is expected in certain districts, including those along the Western Ghats and north interior Tamil Nadu, on Thursday.
