Chennai Water Board Implements Robotic Solutions for Pipeline Issues
The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is adopting innovative measures to address pipeline blocks and leaks. To combat transmission and distribution losses, the board is deploying robots equipped with cameras to inspect water lines and detect issues such as leaks, corrosion, and contamination. These robots, known as Endobots, are capable of inspecting pipelines ranging from 90 mm to 900 mm in diameter and can identify 15 types of problems.
The visual data captured by the robots is transmitted to the user’s computer, enabling swift action to be taken. The initiative is being piloted in core areas to enhance the efficiency of identifying and rectifying pipeline issues. To expand this effort, the water board plans to acquire four more robots through its partnership with Solinas Integrity Pvt. Ltd., an IIT-Madras incubated start-up that developed the Endobot.
Currently operational in zones 11 and 14, the robots are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the water supply and sewerage system’s maintenance.
