Chennai Traffic Police Crack Down on Vehicles with Unauthorized Stickers

In a bid to curb the widespread use of unauthorized stickers on motor vehicles, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) have initiated strict enforcement measures. Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, R. Sudhakar highlighted that the Motor Vehicles Act strictly prohibits the use of defective number plates. The GCTP emphasized that displaying department identities or political affiliations on private vehicles can have detrimental effects, compromising operational efficiency and safety.

To address this issue, the traffic police have begun imposing fines on violators, with a penalty of ₹500 for the first offense. Repeat offenders face a higher fine of ₹1,500. Since the crackdown began, 427 cases have been booked, including violations by police personnel themselves. This initiative aims to ensure road safety and maintain the integrity of departmental identities.
