The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) secured the 199th position among 446 cities in the Swachh Survekshan rankings. With a score of 4,313 out of 9,500, the city’s performance was evaluated across various parameters, including cleanliness in residential and commercial areas, public spaces, water bodies, parks, schools, and waste management facilities.
Despite being declared Open Defecation Free Plus Plus (ODF++), indicating proper toilet facilities and sewage management, the city faced challenges in achieving 100% door-to-door waste collection across its 200 wards. The GCC has undertaken initiatives such as toilet mapping, QR codes for feedback, and awareness campaigns among school children to enhance cleanliness and waste segregation.
