Chennai Police Register 581 Cases for Deepavali Firecracker Violations
The Greater Chennai City Police have registered a total of 581 cases for various firecracker rule violations during Deepavali celebrations. The majority of cases were related to bursting firecrackers outside the permitted time slots, set by the police advisory – 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Other cases included violations of the Supreme Court’s order on green crackers, with only environmentally friendly options permitted, and adherence to noise level limits specified by Rule 89 of The Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986. Chennai Commissioner of Police, Sandeep Rai Rathore, led police teams in checking for violations.
