The Greater Chennai police are on high alert after the killing of Suresh, also known as Arcot Suresh, a man with over 30 criminal cases including murders and extortions, in Srinivasa Puram, Chennai. Suresh was riding as a pillion with a friend on a two-wheeler when a gang of six individuals cornered them. Despite attempting to escape, they were attacked by the assailants who fled when locals intervened, as reported by the police. Sustaining more than 20 injuries, Suresh was taken to Government Royapettah Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Given his extensive criminal background and affiliations with multiple gangs, the police have heightened their surveillance in and around Srinivasa Puram and other parts of Chennai. Suresh was allegedly involved in the murder of Kathiravan, a suspect in the killing of a former employee of Kancheepuram Sankara Mutt, Sankararaman, a case that led to the arrest of the former head of the Sankara Mutt, Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal.
The attack on Suresh is believed to be orchestrated by a gang led by Ramani, who had been previously targeted by Suresh and his associates. Due to the wide network of Arcot Suresh across Tamil Nadu, a heavy police presence has been deployed in Chennai to preempt any potential retaliation from his gang.
