In a bid to curb criminal activities in the Greater Chennai Police (GCP) jurisdiction, Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore has detained 109 individuals under the Goondas Act in the last 21 days. The invocation of the Goondas Act aims to prevent those involved in continuous criminal activities from obtaining bail for a year.
From January 1 to April 21, a total of 387 individuals have been detained under the Act for various crimes, including murder, attempt to murder, theft, robbery, chain snatching, drug smuggling, and selling of banned tobacco products. These measures reflect the GCP’s efforts to maintain law and order in the city and ensure the safety of its residents.
