Four individuals, including a woman, were apprehended in Chennai for the kidnapping of a Sri Lankan national, Mohammed Shyam, who had come to the city for business. Shyam’s daughter reported to the police that her father was held captive in Parry’s corner, with the kidnappers demanding ₹15 lakh for his release.
The North Beach police conducted an investigation, leading to the arrest of K. Chithra, Riyaz Askhar, Velmurugan, and K. Dinesh. Mr. Shyam was successfully rescued, and one car was seized from the accused.
Further inquiries unveiled that Shyam owed money to Chithra, prompting her and her accomplices to resort to kidnapping and threatening his daughter to settle the debt. The arrests underscore the criminal actions taken over financial disputes in the city.
